Critical Access Hospital Designation
A critical access hospital is small facility that has been specifically recognized by the federal government for its important role in providing healthcare services to people in a rural area.
Berkshire Health Systems has two critical access hospitals, one in South County, Fairview Hospital and one in North County, North Adams Regional Hospital. Our Critical Access Hospitals are a part of our whole system of care and supported by our flagship hospital in Central County, Berkshire Medical Center.
Fairview Hospital
Fairview Hospital, an affiliate of Berkshire Health Systems, is a 25-bed federally designated Critical Access Hospital located in Great Barrington, MA. As part of a comprehensive regional network of care, Fairview Hospital operates a 24-hour emergency department, and offers range of inpatient and outpatient services to advance health and wellness for everyone in the community in a welcoming, inclusive, and personalized environment.
North Adams Regional Hospital
The new North Adams Regional Hospital is the cornerstone of a healthier future for our community. Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) is seeking federal and state approval to re-open up to 25 inpatient beds at our North Adams Campus and designate it as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in North Adams, MA. This project is part of BHS’s strategic plan to expand access to care and advance health and wellness for all across the region.
Berkshire Medical Center
Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) is a 298-bed community teaching hospital and the flagship hospital of Berkshire Health Systems (BHS).
BMC offers a full continuum of medical specialties, advanced technologies for lab and imaging, and state-of-the-art surgical facilities, including orthopedic surgery, cancer care, behavioral health/substance use disorder treatment, general surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, cardiology, and gastroenterology.
