What is a Medical Assistant?

Medical Assistants are essential members of the medical office team and serve as core support for doctors and nurses. They manage a wide range of clinical and administrative tasks, which makes them a trusted partner in office operations. As one of the first points of contact for patients during appointments, a Medical Assistant plays a critical role in setting the tone for a patient’s entire experience. Medical Assistants have a significant impact on patient care and on the effectiveness of the whole healthcare team.

A medical assistant’s responsibilities may include:

  • Answering calls
  • Scheduling visits
  • Taking vitals
  • Ordering supplies
  • Updating charts
