Hospital Care
Berkshire Health Systems employs hundreds of hospital-based providers, nurses, and other clinical professionals who collaborate to provide our patients with the highest quality care, diagnostic services, and treatment at Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview. In order to ensure that your care is focused and coordinated, we employ a multidisciplinary approach to care management organized around care teams, each of which has specialized skills and experience to treat patients with specific diagnoses or conditions.
Hospitalists are specialized physicians and advanced practice providers dedicated to overseeing the comprehensive medical care of patients within a hospital setting. These professionals play a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the intricacies of inpatient care. Their services encompass a wide spectrum of medical needs, including the evaluation and treatment of complex and serious conditions. Hospitalists work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including nurses, social workers, and physical therapists, ensuring a thoughtful, safe, and effective care experience. Whether responding to emergency situations, providing inpatient medical consultations, or coordinating care plans, hospitalists contribute significantly to the continuity, safety, and overall well-being of patients throughout their hospital stay.
Anesthesia is the use of medicines to prevent pain during surgery and other procedures. These medicines are called anesthetics. They may be given by injection, inhalation, topical lotion, spray, eye drops, or skin patch. They cause you to have a loss of feeling or awareness.
Nutrition, as a medical specialty, focuses on the study and application of dietary principles to promote health, prevent diseases, and manage various medical conditions through personalized dietary plans. Berkshire Health Systems offers both inpatient and outpatient nutritional services.
Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) provide vital food and nutrition information, education, and help support our patients in making unique and positive lifestyle changes that are individualized to meet their needs.

Your Care Team
Care teams are led by hospitalists, or specially trained physicians who are responsible for overseeing the complete care of all of the inpatients in their assigned unit. Hospitalists will follow up on diagnostic tests, coordinate treatment with consultants, and communicate with your PCP, as necessary. In addition to your hospitalist, your care team also includes case managers, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, dietitians, therapists, chaplains, pharmacists, volunteers, all of whom work together to support your care.
