Make a gift by Publicly-traded Securities
Make a gift of publicly-traded securities and potentially save income tax and capital gains tax, too. If you have owned publicly-traded securities for at least one year, they provided you with little or no income, and they increased in value since you bought them, you can make an outright gift by transferring shares of one or more publicly-traded securities, such as stock, bonds, and mutual funds to Berkshire Medical Center or Fairview Hospital.
Make a Donor Advised Fund gift
Donor Advised Funds are the fastest-growing giving method and a tax-efficient way to manage charitable donations. Donor Advised Funds allow donors to make a contribution to a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, in most cases receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund over time.

Make a Planned Giving Donation

An estate plan gift through a will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, or donor-advised fund is a simple way to make a difference at BMC or Fairview Hospital, while allowing you to also take care of your family and provide for loved ones. Below is an overview of the more common ways to make a planned gift. Please Contact Us to learn more. We also recommend you seek professional counsel in connection with your estate planning.

An easy way to make a charitable estate gift is to name Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, or Berkshire VNA as a beneficiary of your retirement account (a 401k, 403b, traditional IRA or other tax-deferred account, for example). Contact your account administrator or make the change online. It’s that simple!

IRA owners over age 70½ have the option to transfer up to $100,000 to Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, or Berkshire VNA tax-free each year. These transfers, known as qualified charitable distributions or QCDs, offer eligible donors a great way to easily give to Berkshire Health Systems before the end of the year. Moreover, for those who are age 72 or older, QCDs count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution for the year. While you cannot claim a charitable deduction for IRA gifts, this distribution from your IRA counts toward your minimum required distribution for the account and does not trigger income tax for you. It is a tax-free transfer from the IRA account directly to BMC, Fairview, or Berkshire VNA. Please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions.
